Football League World looks at the 17 UK areas targeted in the latest crackdown on 'dodgy' Amazon Fire Sticks - and whether you could be affected

The usage of jailbroken Amazon Fire TV Stick devices to circumvent the cost of paying legal subscription package prices for live sporting events is a well-documented issue which the authorities are continually attempting to crack down on, with no shortage of efforts made in recent times.

Such devices are regularly chipped with illegal software before being sold on throughout the United Kingdom at a significantly-discounted price as opposed to a Sky Sports subscription, for example, which can result in serious consequences for both distributors and purchasers.

The most pressing issue facing the authorities, government and broadcasting rights holders may just be social attitudes towards the activity in question, with a recent New Sport Industry report finding that 58% of fans and 66% of industry professionals say it is "socially acceptable" to access 'dodgy' streaming services in order to watch live sporting events at a cheaper price.

Supporters frequently voice criticisms of the price of watching football nowadays, be it through ticketing prices or subscription fees. Nonetheless, a study undertaken by the Economic Statistics Centre of Excellence revealed that it's setting the national economy back no less than £7bn, and the authorities are taking the issue very seriously.

It has been reported that distributing or using illegal streaming devices can result in a fine of up to £50,000, and we've already seen jail sentences handed out to individuals selling on jailbroken Fire Sticks for financial gain.

Now, with recent reports confirming a fresh crackdown of illegal Fire Sticks on 17 areas across the UK, punters may be on red alert.

The 17 UK areas targeted in fresh 'dodgy' Fire Stick crackdown

As described by the Daily Record, no fewer than 17 areas are being targeted in yet another crackdown of 'dodgy' Amazon Fire Stick devices, with the authorities looking to leave next to no stones unturned in their ever-increasing efforts to punish those using illegal means to bypass the law and watch live football on the cheap.

In the south, Sussex, Kent and London are three areas that are included in the authorities' crackdown list. South Wales is also being targeted, although it's both the only region in Wales and the only area not in England to feature, with no parts of Scotland currently believed to be eyed by the authorities.

Moving on up, meanwhile, you could be worried if you live just about anywhere in the Midlands and are currently in possession of a 'dodgy' Fire Stick device. That's because Derbyshire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire, Staffordshire and both the East and West Midlands are all being looked at closely in the latest crackdown, whereas Norfolk is another area listed.

Those in the North of England are not safe either, and may be on red alert amid such news. Cheshire, Greater Manchester, Northumbria, North Yorkshire, and the North East and North West England are included in the list too, with very few large UK areas not currently set to receive a crackdown on illegal streaming activities.

The EFL clubs included in 17-area UK crackdown on 'dodgy' Fire Sticks

The full crackdown list encompasses a whole host of clubs and fanbases throughout the width and breadth of the EFL pyramid, spanning from Championship promotion-chasers to League Two relegation battlers.

In Kent and Sussex, supporters of fourth-tier pair Gillingham and Crawley Town respectively may be on red alert. London, of course, has a wide variety of EFL outfits, be it Bromley and Barnet of League Two, AFC Wimbledon and Leyton Orient in League One or Championship quartet Charlton Athletic, Millwall, QPR and Watford.

Then, in South Wales, supporters of Cardiff City and Swansea City may finally have something in common - they too could be watching closely at how the authorities act, which may also be followed by the Newport County faithful.

Once again, a litany of EFL clubs are scattered throughout the wide Midlands area. The East Midlands is home to Chesterfield, Derby County, Leicester City, Lincoln City and Mansfield Town, while the West Midlands hosts the likes of Championship trio Birmingham City, Coventry City and West Bromwich Albion along with Walsall.

You've also got areas such as Northamptonshire and Staffordshire, of course, where Northampton Town, Burton Albion, Port Vale Stoke City are all situated - and that's not forgetting Norwich City further afield in Norfolk.

Moving further north, Crewe Alexandra's position in Cheshire is worth noting - as is that of Bolton Wanderers, Salford City, Stockport County and Wigan Athletic in Greater Manchester.

A flurry of fanbases throughout the North West could find themselves sweating, including League Two side Barrow of Cumbria and Lancashire's current EFL representatives in Accrington Stanley, Blackburn Rovers, Blackpool, Fleetwood Town and Preston North End.

Yorkshire as a whole does not appear to be on the authorities' radar at this moment in time, with only North Yorkshire said to be subjected to the crackdown.

This could still concern supporters of Harrogate Town, though, while Premier League hopefuls Middlesbrough are now the EFL's sole representative in the North East following Sunderland's promotion last season.
