Dominic Calvert-Lewin has now finally announced he is leaving Everton.

This has been a long time coming as the striker had repeatedly refused to sign a new extended deal as his current contract ran down.

Basically, everybody knew he was leaving despite David Moyes saying he was still trying to get him to stay.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin waiting until only a couple of days before that Everton contract ends (30 June 2025), to confirm the inevitable.

The 28 year old sending this message via social media to the Everton fans on Sunday (29 June 2025) ahead of his departure:

“To Everton Football Club and the Evertonians.

“After nine remarkable years at this club, I’ve made the incredibly difficult decision, together with my family, to begin a new chapter in my career.

“This isn’t something I chose lightly. Everton has been my home since I was 19 years old. It’s the place that saw potential in me, challenged me to grow, and shaped me both as a footballer and as a man.

“Whether times were good or tough, your unwavering support never faltered. Celebrating goals at Goodison Park, feeling that roar, is an experience I’ll carry with me forever.

“This choice to move on was not simply about me, it was a decision my family and I spent a long time considering together.

“We believe it’s the right moment to seek a new challenge and continue growing, but that doesn’t lessen the bond I’ll always have with Everton.

“I’m deeply proud of what we’ve shared, fighting for this club when it mattered most, scoring big goals in crucial moments, wearing the shirt with commitment and pride.

“My hope is that I leave with your respect, knowing I always sought to uphold the values of this great club.”

The big question though, is which club next?

I think it appears clear that Dominic Calvert-Lewin has a new club lined up, the identity of which I think we’ll find out very soon, almost certainly this coming week after his Everton deal officially ends.

Eddie Howe and Newcastle United have long been linked with Dominic Calvert-Lewin and with a number of positions to strengthen this summer and United needing to balance where their spending goes, could the Everton striker be a player who the NUFC Head Coach could work his magic on?

A striker who has lost his way in recent years, injuries playing a big part and of course playing for such a poor and negative team.

The striker spoke on the High Performance Podcast (see below) earlier this month and admitted he wants to be at a club that can offer Champions League football.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin actually celebrated his 28th birthday on the same day as we were very much celebrating defeating Liverpool at Wembley to win the League Cup.

This will be the key move of his career, at the age of 28 he will surely be looking for the right club to be at these next three or four years.

If there was a sizeable transfer fee to pay then I would say no chance, with Eddie Howe and Newcastle United’s model of investing the major money in players who are early 20s at the oldest. However, with major squad strengthening to happen this summer, I could well see a free agent such as Dominic Calvert-Lewin coming to St James’ Park, allowing the club’s budget to stretch as far as possible for other positions that need strengthening.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin speaking earlier this month (June 2025) about his future on the High Performance Podcast:

“I have to be careful with what I say, because I am still contracted to Everton, I have a long history with Everton and a big respect for the club…

“[But] The main thing for me is that I want to win.

“I want to be in a winning environment.

“The last three or four seasons it has been about survival.

‘When I started my career I wanted to play in the Premier League.

“Play for England a go to major tournaments with England.

“Play in the Champions League.

“I have played in a major tournament for England, I have played in the Premier League…but I haven’t played in the Champions League.

“There are still things I would like to achieve before my time is done.

“To have the opportunity to decide potentially where that place will be.

“If it gives me the best opportunity and environment to win and score goals…

“Then that would be the return of me to the England team and playing in the Champions League.

“That has been my driver to play at the highest level possible.

“My representation of that is the Champions League, World Cups, Euros, getting into that bracket of elite players.”

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has started 75 Premier League matches and scored 17 goals in the league, these past four seasons.

In the 2019/20 and 2020/21 seasons, it was 62 Premier League starts and 29 goals in the league.

A mixture of injuries, Everton a shambles of a club, managers playing very negative football, plus of course the player himself not regularly able to match his previous form, have all played a part in his career drop-off.

Eddie Howe has worked his magic on so many players already at Newcastle United, barely a single one who hasn’t shown significant improvement under him, both inherited players and Howe signings.
