Monza have agreed the final details to sign Benfica striker Gustavo Varela, claim Sky Sport Italia, for €2m plus up to a further €1.5m in add-ons.

The 21-year-old is expected to fly out and undergo his medical tests over the weekend before signing a five-year contract.

Varela is a Portugal Under-21 international with three goals in just five caps at that level.

The striker comes from a football family, as he is the son of Cape Verde international defender Fernando Varela.

Last season, he was on loan at Gil Vicente in Portugal.

According to Sky Sport Italia transfer pundit Gianluca Di Marzio, the agreement has been reached at a fee of €2m plus up to another €1.5m in performance-related add-ons.

Monza have been very active, as they also welcomed Ricardo Mangas from Sporting CP, on loan with an option to buy for €1.5m.
