Royal Antwerp’s transfer plans are mainly focused on saving. ‘The Great Old’ are looking to achieve this by eliminating high salaries, such as in the case of retired captain Toby Alderweireld. Mainstay and top scorer Vincent Janssen can also leave with the right offer, Het Nieuwsblad reports.
Antwerp are reportedly open to a departure of the 31-year-old Dutchman, who scored 13 times and egistered eight assists in 39 official matches last season.
The paper reads: “Vincent Janssen is now the most expensive player in Belgium, so if a good offer comes for him, Antwerp will be inclined to cooperate.” The 22-time Dutch international has been playing for Antwerp since 2022, who bought him from CF Monterrey for 5.5 million euros.
While Janssen is on the list to be sold, Antwerp is not planning to let everyone go. “Antwerp had not expected club top scorer Tjaronn Chery to leave. However, because he could sign for three years at NEC Nijmegen – amazing, at the age of 37 – he asked to be allowed to leave, and that will happen.”
Technical director Marc Overmars is already busy looking for a replacement for his compatriot. “But the midfield also needs to be strengthened, there needs to be an offensive winger, preferably two attackers and two central defenders”, the newspaper lists.
Antwerp has already seen Daam Foulon and Geoffry Hairemans come in on a free transfer, while Japanese goalkeeper Nozawa Taishi is on the way.
Nevertheless, it remains important to first make room and sell players. “The faster money comes in for someone like Lammens, the harder Antwerp can push for its targets. Because Adem Zorgane (Charleroi) may be on the list, and it is not easy to steal such a player.”
