Dynamo Moscow director explains Plata’s failed medical and collapsed move | OneFootball

Gonzalo Plata’s proposed switch to Dynamo Moscow collapsed after the Ecuadorian failed his medical.

Club director Pivovarov said they had not intended to reveal details and stressed respect for the reputations of clubs and players. He called the case rare in his career and noted it could prompt conspiracy theories.

He added they wanted the players to join, that the arrivals were completed and contracts were signed, but the medicals were not passed. Assessing the risks, the club declined to proceed and said their aim remains to strengthen their position.

Flamengo had a verbal agreement with Dynamo worth 12 million euros, about R$72 million at current rates. Plata travelled to Russia on Sunday 30 to complete the move, but it did not happen.

Plata is returning to Rio de Janeiro to report back to Flamengo and is due to resume training this week.

Dynamo also abandoned a move for Botafogo forward Matheus Martins after medical checks. Botafogo are studying possible measures against the Russian club.

Before Flamengo faced Mirassol on Wednesday 2, sporting director José Boto said the Russians had offered no explanation for withdrawing and reiterated that Plata is welcome. He added the matter sits with the legal department and criticised the handling.

Flamengo visit Remo in the Brasileirão on Sunday 6 at 16:00, Brasília time, at Estádio Mangueirão.
