FC Bayern fought their way into the semi-finals of the Champions League with a spectacular 4:3 victory against Real Madrid – and once again proved their mentality. For sporting director Max Eberl, it was an evening that symbolizes the development of the team under Vincent Kompany. At the same time, the focus is already on the next big goal: the early championship on Sunday
Eberl was deeply impressed by Munich’s performance after the dramatic quarter-final second leg. The 52-year-old particularly highlighted their ability to respond to being behind on several occasions. „The game also shows a bit of what we are like. We always come back,“ he explained
The early goal conceded may have briefly affected the team, but the reaction followed promptly. „We pressed the reset button relatively quickly – and not just once,“ continued Eberl. It is precisely this resilience that makes FC Bayern what they are today
In addition to the quality of play, it is above all the mental strength that makes the difference. „We can play soccer, but above all we can defend ourselves and remain stable,“ emphasized the sporting director
Coach Vincent Kompany also received special praise from Eberl. Despite the emotional rollercoaster ride on the pitch, the Belgian exuded calm and clarity on the touchline. „The coach is very analytical and clear,“ explained Eberl
The fact that Kompany will miss the semi-final first leg against Paris Saint-Germain due to his yellow card suspension took a back seat for the Bayern boss, who said that the team’s development under him was much more important
Eberl himself admitted that such evenings are not yet a matter of course for him. „I haven’t been at this Champions League semi-final level for so long,“ he said – and added: „It just feels great.“

But there’s not much time to enjoy it, because FC Bayern could crown their perfect week this weekend. Under certain conditions, the Munich side have the chance to secure the German championship early on Sunday
If Borussia Dortmund drop points on Saturday, a draw against VfB Stuttgart will be enough for FCB. If BVB do not win, even a draw would be enough to secure their 35th championship
Eberl makes no secret of how appealing this scenario would be: „Of course, that would round off this week. It would be a great finish.“
Despite all the euphoria, however, the focus remains clear internally. In the spirit of Vincent Kompany, the focus is already on the upcoming tasks – in particular the DFB Cup semi-final against Bayer Leverkusen
„The next Bernabéu awaits in Leverkusen,“ Eberl quoted his coach as saying, making it clear that Bayern will not let up despite all their successes
The message is clear: FC Bayern is currently not only in top sporting form, but also at the highest level mentally. And that could make all the difference in this crucial phase of the season – on the way to several titles.
