Newcastle United will be searching for a new manager after shock news that Eddie Howe is leaving.

David Ornstein of The Athletic reported on Thursday that Howe was set to leave, and Sky Sports later announced his departure.

Howe, 48, has been in charge since November 2021. It had been expected he would stay despite a disappointing 2025-26 Premier League season when the Magpies finished just two points above newly-promoted Leeds United.

Newcastle have reportedly lined up Al Ahli’s Matthias Jaissle, 38, as his replacement.

The report added that all parties initially intended to continue, but Howe informed the club of a decision to take a break.
