One of the gripes there has been with Enzo Maresca’s management of Chelsea this season has been that he rotates his team too much.
The draw with Qarabag was a huge opportunity dropped, and many pundits blamed it on the raft of changes made by the Blues’ coach.

On the London is Blue podcast, Matt Law discussed the changes Maresca was making, and Matt Law referred to what he had been told by a legendary coach in the past:
“I remember Arsene Wenger sat down with us, we were talking to him about a European tie, I remember very vividly him talking us through the fact that he felt that any more than four changes becomes a risk. More than four changes within the rotation becomes a risk.
“You take away that momentum and that fluency. Certainly in the Champions League, no matter who you’re playing, I think you take a very big risk [to rotate your full team], I think [Maresca] is making too many, every time.”
Of course football has changed a lot since the mid 2000s, and perhaps is so physical now that players can’t play twice a week in the same way they used to. But it still feels like Maresca needs to find the right balance.

Romeo Lavia is currently injured, and his struggles as a Chelsea player continue. It was very surprising to hear that sources are saying he was offered as a part exchange to our Premier League rivals in the summer.
Chelsea are into the Carabao Cup quarter final, and while they want to win, it’s not a priority according to Matt Law of the Daily Telegraph.
