Eray Cömert injury update leaves Corberán facing defensive headache | OneFootball

Valencia centre-back Eray Cömert has suffered an abdominal muscle injury in the Elche derby, deepening Carlos Corberán's defensive problems.

According to Superdeporte, tests confirmed the abdominal issue and he will undergo medical, physiotherapy and reconditioning work at the training ground. He went down at the Martínez Valero and, while he was on the turf, Cepeda struck the winner for Elche. Pepelu later filled in at centre-back after Cömert was substituted, and Valencia had earlier passed up the chance to put the ball out.

The Switzerland international with 18 caps had the same problem in December against Atlético de Madrid, which kept him out for three weeks and cost him three matches.

If the lay-off is similar, he would miss Mallorca and Girona, and might return against Atlético in the first week of May.

For now only Tárrega is fully fit to lead the back line, with Unai Núñez a possible returnee for Mallorca.

Other options include Rubo Iranzo or using Pepelu again, while Panach could be involved with the senior squad. Corberán has also tested Santamaría and even Renzo Saravia in central defence. Whatever the configuration, Valencia must deal with Vedat Muriqi, one of Europe’s in-form forwards, as well as threats such as Virgili.
