Erling Haaland, 26, has launched legal action against the airline Norwegian over a social media post that mimicked his former ponytail, with a preliminary hearing scheduled at Oslo District Court on nine October.

According to Superdeporte, his lawyers argue the post unlawfully exploited his image to sell flights during this summer’s World Cup, and the carrier considers the complaint incomprehensible.

The dispute traces back to the tournament, in which Norway featured, when the airline shared an image of one of its aircraft edited with flowing hair resembling Haaland’s old look, alongside a caption saying it had never looked more Norwegian.

Haaland has since swapped his long hair for a close-cropped, military-style cut, yet the erstwhile ponytail remains central to the case.

The session is preliminary, and it remains to be seen whether Norwegian will have to pay or avoid liability.
