RCD Espanyol are in a dire spell in 2025/26. After a stoppage-time defeat at Sevilla at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán, Manolo González railed at the decision-making around the decisive second goal by Akor Adams, which completed the comeback after Tyrhys Dolan had struck on 56 minutes.
Sevilla equalised before Adams hit the winner in the 91st minute. “The second goal is unbelievable. It is a throw-in, Omar El Hilali interrupts the throw, but they take it with the foot and from that action comes Akor Adams’ goal.” The remarks were reported by SPORT.
González maintained that after the infringement against El Hilali, Sevilla should have restarted with a hand-thrown ball rather than a kick, and he also argued there was a foul in the build-up. He pointed to referee Javier Alberola Rojas’s handling of the restart.
Espanyol have not won a league game in 2026, collecting only six points from the last 54, a run dragging them towards the bottom and sapping their stability after a strong first half of the season.
They sit on 39 points, two above the relegation zone, with three matches left. Concern has gripped the fanbase as the team show the poorest form among the clubs fighting to stay up.
