Leeds United moved closer to a second summer addition after a preliminary €40million (£34.1m) agreement for Sassuolo centre-back Tarik Muharemovic, with Harry Wilson already through the door this month. Captain Ethan Ampadu says keeping last season’s togetherness is vital as newcomers settle.
"Massively. Through those tough times, you lean on each other. Everyone can be great during the good times when everything’s going well, but it's the Premier League so you're going to have some difficult results," he told LUTV.
"You have to be open and honest about that so it’s good to have a great group behind you that you can rally behind and everyone’s going to work as hard as they can every day in training to achieve the same big goal. It’s massive."
Leeds ended last season 14th in the Premier League, a campaign underpinned by a strong dressing room. Daniel Farke’s side had difficult spells but stayed united.
That environment should help signings bed in. Ever-presents such as Ampadu and Joe Rodon have set standards for three years, while Dominic Calvert-Lewin has quickly taken on leadership duties.
The benefits were clear as Premier League newcomers Gabriel Gudmundsson, Anton Stach and Jaka Bijol grew across the campaign. The hope is that momentum continues.
"You could see [confidence growing] as the season went on." "We can take confidence from that."
