Leeds United captain Ethan Ampadu says keeping last season’s togetherness is vital as new signings arrive, with Harry Wilson in and a preliminary €40m (£34.1m) agreement reached for Sassuolo centre-back Tarik Muharemovic.
“Massively. Through those tough times, you lean on each other. Everyone can be great during the good times when everything’s going well, but it's the Premier League so you're going to have some difficult results,” said Ampadu, speaking to LUTV.
“You have to be open and honest about that so it’s good to have a great group behind you that you can rally behind and everyone’s going to work as hard as they can every day in training to achieve the same big goal. It’s massive.”
Leeds finished 14th in the Premier League last season, with Daniel Farke’s side sticking together through difficult spells.
Ampadu already knows fellow Wales international Wilson well. Ever-presents such as Ampadu and Joe Rodon have set the standard in recent years, while Dominic Calvert-Lewin has quickly taken on leadership duties.
That culture helped newcomers like Gabriel Gudmundsson, Anton Stach and Jaka Bijol grow into the division. “You could see [confidence growing] as the season went on,” Ampadu added. “It takes time to adapt and I thought we got stronger as the season was finishing. We can take confidence from that.”
