Ethan Ampadu has agreed a four-year contract extension at Leeds United, keeping the club captain at Elland Road until 2030.
According to Leeds Live, Ampadu joined from Chelsea for £7m in 2023 and has become integral to Daniel Farke’s plans, with the manager often describing him as his most important player.
His previous deal was due to expire next summer, and the new terms curb the risk of rival bids. Securing Ampadu’s renewal was a key board objective this off-season.
Chairman Paraag Marathe expressed his delight, calling Ampadu instrumental over the year and a leader on and off the pitch. He also framed the extension as an important first step for the upcoming window.
Ampadu has played 126 games for Leeds and collected player’s player and club player of the season at the end-of-season awards.
His authority in possession and organisation were central to Leeds’ Championship title promotion in 2025 and their survival this season.
Leeds also face summer calls on several players. Karl Darlow’s contract ends this month, while Pascal Struijk has one year left and was the subject of at least one transfer approach last summer. Lukas Nmecha, Joel Piroe, Ilia Gruev and Brenden Aaronson have just over 12 months remaining, with Alex Cairns, Illan Meslier and Sam Byram set to expire in July.
