Leeds United have secured club captain Ethan Ampadu on a new deal until the summer of 2030, with chairman Paraag Marathe telling local media the agreement is signed and complete. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, he revealed the news at a roundtable with reporters in London.
Talks began at the start of the year, with Ampadu’s previous contract set to expire in 2027. Leeds also held an option for an extra year, but his Premier League form and off-field influence prompted the club to move for long-term security.
Marathe said the paperwork is finished and described Ampadu as instrumental across the campaign, a captain on and off the pitch whose actions embody leadership. He called securing the skipper an important first step for the upcoming window.
Ampadu joined in the summer of 2023 as an early piece of Daniel Farke’s promotion rebuild. He captained Leeds to a Championship title, then played a major part in preserving top-flight status last season. He has already made 126 appearances for the club despite suffering two serious knee injuries in his second campaign.
Farke has repeatedly labelled the 62-cap Wales international the squad’s most important player. Ampadu collected both Players’ Player of the Year and Player of the Year at the end-of-season awards at Elland Road.
