FC Bayern is working intensively on a contract extension with Harry Kane. However, a long-term agreement with the striker would apparently not prevent the Munich club from signing another top striker in the coming years.

Bayern Munich officials want to secure Harry Kane’s future with the club beyond the summer of 2027 as soon as possible. CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen recently confirmed that both sides are fundamentally interested in an extension.

But even if the Englishman stays long-term, the Munich club could further strengthen its offense soon. According to information from Sport BILD, a contract extension with Kane does not rule out the signing of another top striker in the summer of 2027.

According to the report, FC Bayern had already been closely monitoring Benjamin Sesko as early as 2024. However, the Slovenian moved from RB Leipzig to Manchester United a year later. From coach Vincent Kompany’s perspective, the now 23-year-old would have been the ideal addition to the offense.

The Belgian is reportedly pursuing the idea of playing with two true strikers more often in the future. Alongside Harry Kane, another versatile and skillful attacker would provide more flexibility in the team’s offensive play. Internally, Sesko was considered the preferred choice for this strategy.

A new role for Kane at FC Bayern?

Kane himself is reportedly aware of this development. According to Sport BILD, his role could change in the coming years. While the English international has primarily played as a classic goal-scorer so far, he is expected to play slightly deeper more often in the future and bring his strengths as a playmaker into play even more.

With his vision, precise passing, and game intelligence, Kane possesses qualities that are immensely valuable even outside the penalty area. Should he lose some speed over the years, this slightly deeper role could actually suit his profile even better.

A potential contract extension would therefore primarily provide Bayern with planning certainty. At the same time, club officials are apparently keeping open the option of adding another top striker to the offense in the medium term and fulfilling Kompany’s desire for a more flexible attacking system.
