Everton target Franculino Djú has officially hit the market, with his exit from FC Midtjylland this summer now 100% certain. The Toffees have been keeping close tabs on the 21-year-old Guinea-Bissau international for some time, and this confirmation shifts gears ahead of the transfer window.

According to Sport Witness, Everton scouts have been regulars at Midtjylland games this season, with club officials making several trips to Denmark to watch him alongside representatives from Liverpool, West Ham, and Manchester United. The real issue isn’t whether Everton want Djú, that’s a given, it’s whether they can beat five heavyweight rivals for his signature in a market where prices are skyrocketing.

Everton’s long-term interest and the stats behind it

Everton aren’t just late arrivals; they are long-term admirers who have scouted the forward eight times since first being linked back in August. Looking at the numbers, it’s easy to see why. Djú racked up 22 goals and three assists in 32 games this term, including a staggering 16 goals in just 17 Superliga outings before being sidelined.

Despite a serious injury in December that required surgery and a four-month layoff, he proved his fitness by scoring immediately upon his return in a 2-1 win over Brøndby IF. While Midtjylland slapped a £40m price tag on him during the winter, their sporting director has confirmed the plan is still a summer sale. His Transfermarkt value sits at €22m, but expect the actual asking price to be significantly higher.

Why do Everton face their toughest test yet in the transfer market?

The competition is fierce. Real Betis, Bayern Munich, AS Roma, Liverpool, West Ham, and Manchester United are all in the race. Midtjylland are holding out for a fee north of €25m, which would smash their club transfer record. His agency, All Iron Sports, led by Borja García-Fuster, is expected to spark a bidding war.

However, Everton have a trump card, and that’s they can offer Djú the regular first-team minutes that bigger clubs likely can’t guarantee, which is a factor his camp will take very seriously. With the Toffees currently fighting for a European spot, securing continental football would massively boost their chances of landing him.

Can Everton actually beat the big spenders to land Franculino Djú?

Actually, Everton’s position is better than you might think. Djú is only 21 and moving up from the Danish league; his priority should be a club where he’s the main man, not sitting on the bench behind a £100m superstar. Under David Moyes, Everton have shown they know how to develop young strikers within a solid system.

The fact that they got in early with his agent is a huge plus in these kinds of deals. While they can’t outspend Bayern or Liverpool, the combination of being first to the table, offering a guaranteed starting role, and the lure of European nights gives them a very real chance to win this race.
