Everton are preparing to offer manager David Moyes a new contract after his remarkable transformation of the club since his return in January 2025.

Moyes rejoined Everton last year after replacing Sean Dyche at a time when the club were fighting to avoid relegation from the Premier League.

Everton were only one point above the relegation zone and facing a difficult second half of the season.

The picture around the Hill Dickinson Stadium now looks dramatically different.

Everton are eighth in the Premier League standings and are only three points outside the positions that could secure qualification for the Champions League.

That improvement has convinced the club’s ownership that Moyes should remain in charge beyond his current deal.

The Scottish manager signed a two-and-a-half-year contract when he returned to the club early last year.

However, Everton’s hierarchy now want to extend that agreement in recognition of the progress made under his leadership.

The club are owned by the Friedkin Group, who completed their takeover shortly before Moyes’ appointment.

Moyes was initially viewed as a stabilising figure who could guide the team away from relegation danger.

His success in reshaping the squad and improving results has since changed that perception.

Formal discussions over a new deal are expected to take place once the season concludes.

There is confidence within the club that Moyes will be open to extending his second spell in charge.

The 62-year-old has publicly downplayed speculation about a new contract.

“I’m not too worried about that, I’m fine,” Moyes said recently when asked about his future.

If a new deal is agreed, Moyes is expected to be given a stronger voice in Everton’s recruitment strategy.

That approach mirrors the level of influence he enjoyed during his first spell at the club between 2002 and 2013.

Everton’s recent recruitment has reflected Moyes’ preference for experienced players capable of making an immediate impact.

Signings such as Jack Grealish and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall have helped strengthen the squad over the past year.

Younger players such as Tyler Dibling have been introduced more gradually.

There is also a potential complication regarding European qualification.

The Friedkin Group also own AS Roma, who are currently competing near the top of Serie A.

Under UEFA regulations, clubs controlled by the same ownership cannot compete in the same European competition.

However, sources close to the ownership group believe structural solutions are already in place if both clubs qualify.

Everton’s immediate focus remains on maintaining their push for European football under Moyes’ guidance.
