Everton travel to the Emirates Stadium this weekend with genuine belief that they can unsettle Premier League leaders Arsenal. Confidence is flowing through David Moyes’ side after back to back league victories, and the Toffees have become one of the division’s most effective travelling teams.
For Everton, the turnaround under Moyes has been striking. When he returned 428 days ago, the club hovered just one point above the relegation zone. Now they sit only five points off a potential Champions League place. That shift has been built on discipline, resilience and a clear identity.
Facing Arsenal at the Emirates remains a formidable assignment, particularly with the title race intensifying. Still, Everton’s recent away performances suggest they will not arrive in London merely to make up the numbers.
Everton’s strength on the road has become one of the defining features of their campaign. Moyes has crafted a side that thrives in difficult away environments.
The formula is simple and ruthlessly effective. Everton are comfortable conceding possession and currently average the lowest possession away from home in the Premier League, 39.3 percent. Rather than dominate the ball, they focus on defensive organisation, physical strength and the shot stopping brilliance of Jordan Pickford.

That approach has delivered impressive results. Everton have lost only once away from home since October and are unbeaten in nine of their last 10 away league fixtures. Four wins from their last five away matches underline just how dangerous they have become on their travels.
Crucially, they have already shown they can shock strong opponents. In January they ended Aston Villa’s 11 match home winning streak, and earlier in the season they secured a rare victory at Manchester United.
With Arsenal feeling the pressure of the title race, Moyes will sense another opportunity to disrupt expectations.
Despite Everton’s encouraging form, history at the Emirates provides a sobering reminder of the challenge ahead.
Everton’s 1-0 win at Arsenal in 2021 remains their only Premier League victory in 29 attempts at the ground. The statistics underline how difficult this fixture has traditionally been for the Toffees.
Arsenal’s strengths also present a specific tactical concern. They are widely regarded as the league’s most effective side from set pieces. That area could prove decisive, although Everton carry an impressive defensive record of their own.
They are the only Premier League team yet to concede from a set piece away from home this season. That resilience may become a key battleground in this encounter.
Moyes may opt to keep changes to a minimum after Everton’s convincing 2-0 win over Burnley. An 11 day rest has allowed the squad time to recover, which increases the chances of a similar starting eleven.
Thierno Barry could come into the side as the central striker, potentially replacing Beto. Meanwhile Seamus Coleman is expected to recover from a minor knock, which may see the Republic of Ireland international return to the squad.
There is also a confirmed setback. Jack Grealish has been ruled out for the remainder of the season with a foot injury.
Everton predicted XI: Pickford, O’Brien, Tarkowski, Branthwaite, Mykolenko, Garner, Gueye, McNeil, Dewsbury-Hall, Ndiaye, Barry
Everton arrive at the Emirates with momentum, organisation and a clear plan. Arsenal remain favourites, particularly at home, but Moyes’ side have built a reputation for frustrating stronger teams away from Goodison Park. If the Toffees maintain their defensive discipline and seize their moments, an upset cannot be ruled out.
