Everton undecided on permanent moves for Grealish and George, Mykolenko extension imminent | OneFootball

David Moyes has suggested that Everton are still undecided on whether to turn the loan deals for Tyrique George and Jack Grealish into permanent transfers.

Grealish signed on a season-long loan from Manchester City last summer and impressed before his campaign was curtailed by a foot injury.

The 30-year-old scored twice and provided six assists in 18 Premier League starts. Grealish will return to a City side under new management, after the club confirmed Pep Guardiola’s decision to step down. He is contracted at the Etihad until 2027.

George arrived from Chelsea in the January transfer window and has had limited opportunities to impress. The 20-year-old has made only one Premier League start, and has totalled just 182 league minutes. Despite that, Moyes said he has been ‘happy’ with George since his arrival at Everton.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of facing Tottenham this week, Moyes also confirmed the club are ‘very close’ to a new deal for Vitalii Mykolenko.

"We've got two players on loan and, obviously, at the moment, they go back to their clubs and we'll take it from there. As the summer goes on, we'll decide what path we're going to take on both of them.

"We like Tyrique, obviously we like Jack a lot – but we've not got an answer [yet].

"We've enjoyed having Tyrique here – he's been an excellent boy and his work-rate and everything has been excellent, so we're happy with him."

Moyes also provided an update on Grealish's season-ending injury. He said the surgeon has been positive about his recovery progress.

"We've looked after Jack since his injury and his injury is coming on. He had quite a bad break in his foot, which has been pinned and it's looking in good order now. The surgeon has been speaking very well about it and thinks it's healing greatly. Normally a player would go back to their parent club [when injured] and be looked after from there but we'll continue doing our best for Jack."

I just read in the Echo that, if Gana Gueye had played 1 more game, it would have triggered the extra year on his contract.

Now a few weeks back, Moyes said his injury was minor but he hasn't played in our last few games... so maybe it's been decided not to trigger an extra year?

I understand he is not the player he was but he is still someone I would have to be able to call on in certain games.

Obviously they don't want to trigger another loan deal for Grealish just yet at the beginning of the summer break especially as he is one of the biggest earners.

I know, when we took George on loan, the reporter on Sky said he wouldn't disclose how much Chelsea would want to allow this deal to become permanent but it was he said an eye watering amount.

Moyes said he is under a cloud, so he knows he is under pressure to start the season well as it seems according to Kinnear he will be in charge for the new season.

He also said he was looking to add experience and youth in the summer signings... After the debacle of the last window, signing young players didn't work; let's hope the emphasis is on experience.

Moyes is in charge of transfers and has said so himself. Part of his falling out at West Ham was because he didn't want to work with a director of football.

I do believe the owners told Moyes that they wanted younger players brought in, but Moyes had the final say.

He just has no idea how to integrate young players into his squad.

Grealish, if he proves his fitness, has to be another loan, or no deal.

George, who Moyes clearly rates a lot higher than Dibling, depends on price, Chelsea's need to offload.

Gueye, low earner I think, I'd keep as squad player only for further 12 months.

Mykolenko has to be 2nd choice left-back, recruit better.

There has to be a lot of wheeling and dealing this Summer. Fear not... Kinnear and Moyes are leading the charge!

Grealish will have to prove he's over the injury, massive risk signing a player injured.

But knowing us we will get him permanent, and he'll never play again.

What I was getting at was the fact that he was told to buy younger players where possible.

Despite being against bringing in younger players, he did so, but he selected those younger players.

At no point did I suggest Moyes went against the billionaire owner, as you suggested.

Friedkin might be rocketing up the Forbes list, but he hasn't got Everton rocketing anywhere, has he?

Jay @17, no it hasn't worked out well for West Ham. But that's what you get when you continue to hire mediocre managers and get left an ageing squad.

Hats off to Julia G of radio Merseyside with her questions. She nailed the elephant in the room: knackered players!!! Moyes's response was a cross between arrogance and disdain!!

The boys have only play 38 to 40 games, so can't be tired when other teams have played 60 or 70 games!!! 😡

She chipped back straight away with the players on the bench would have expected more minutes!!!! The deluded Moyes was not impressed...

Yes, Friedkin might very well spend that £3B in the close season — how much will he spend on Everton?

Friedkin bought Everton for a song, with a new stadium thrown in. I think it is time now for them to spend as much as they are allowed to spend and start treating Everton at least the same way as they are looking after Roma.

Moyes is now saying that the foot injury was quite a bad break but when the injury was first announced it was stated that Grealish had felt a bit of pain in his foot after a game and then it was discovered that he had broken a bone in his foot after a further examination well after that game.

It all sounds a bit hookey to me, like a lot of injuries are explained by Moyes in his pre-match rambles like Alcaraz's and Gana Gueye's not to mention Rohl's non-appearances after a great game at Villa.

If Moyes and Grealish are still here next season, I'll feel less guilty about missing Everton's matches at home.

It is being reported that Mykolenko will sign a new contract that takes him up to June 2029, with the option of another year as well, Mike.

Good luck to Dan Friedkin, because it sounds like he's making that much money, it's coming out of his ears, but still the man won't come and watch his investment playing in a game.

You can have all the money in the world, Dan, but you will personally never mean as much to as many people as what Everton do, so treat the people who love the club with a little bit more respect, please. I think most fans find it a little bit nauseating that you have never even watched us play a game live.

You don't have to come every week, but surely once a year wouldn't go amiss. Honestly, if you had been inside our ground last week and watched the people pouring out, you would probably have also realised that your CEO hasn't got much of a clue about a lot of Evertonians either.

It'll be easy to compare our treatment to that of Roma, given that our revenue (and therefore our spending limit) is similar to Roma's.

Up to now, Freidkin has done no more than plough the endless furrow of mediocrity that's been allowed to engulf our club since the inception of the Premier League itself.

Does emulating that mediocrity appeal to him, because Moyes only delivers mediocrity, decade after decade, wherever he "manages".

To be fair, what more could be required of him by bogus club owners whose chief aim is usually only to swell their own bank balances, and bollocks to their club?

Is Freidkin just another such leech we are afflicted by, or will he invest to put new blood, healthy blood, into this still piss-balling club?

I haven't seen his presser, nor do I want to, but I'm glad someone has brought him to task over the 'tired' line.

As she said, they've only played 40 games, yes the 2 Senegal lads played a few more but the knackered line has worn thin.

If they are tired, that's down to Moyes who's flogged them to death, his treatment of the squad has been awful. One instance was Ndiaye should have been brought off at half-timet last week and George put on... but no, stubborn Dave knows best.

His treatment of Alcaraz, Dibling, Rohl, Armstrong and said George has been appalling, and everyone is sick to death of it. Also, I'm hearing we are in talks to sign Trippier of Newcastle, what a total and utter insult! I do hope this is mischief-making but, knowing Moyes, it wouldn't shock me.

Andy, I thought I'd seen it all when Moyes brought McNeil back into the side playing out of position on the right. Zero goals and one assist in 25 appearances, but apparently he was the man for the job.

If we sign Tripper, Soucek, Delap or Stones, then we might as well all give up. Not forgetting the confirmed extension for Keane and the rumoured new deal for Mykolenko.

I am just waiting for Tarkowski to get a contract extension to 2030.

I said a month ago, if he was allowed a big transfer kitty, we'd be full of ageing players... and nothing has dissuaded me from that.

If Friedkin has any grasp on football, he'll sack Moyes before he spunks all his money on journeyman players with no sell-on value.
