Former Manchester United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka is in line to make an immediate return to the Premier League after suffering relegation with West Ham United.
Wan-Bissaka joined United from Crystal Palace in the summer of 2019 in a deal worth an initial £45m + £5m in add-ons.
His signing was sanctioned by then-manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Regarded as one of the most promising young defenders in the Premier League after an outstanding breakout season with Palace, Wan-Bissaka wasted no time in cementing a regular starting berth at United.
He earned recognition for his no-nonsense one-vs-one defending, often leading the charts for tackles won.
The 28-year-old scored his first professional goal in October 2020 against Newcastle. He played a key role in the 2020/21 campaign as the Red Devils reached the Europa League final (lost to Villarreal on penalties) and finished 2nd in the Premier League.
Solskjaer’s sacking spelt the start of Wan-Bissaka’s misfortunes at Old Trafford. Interim boss Ralf Rangnick demonstrated a clear preference for Diogo Dalot, a trend which continued under Erik ten Hag.
He enjoyed a brief revival after the 2022 World Cup and regained some trust from Ten Hag. However, with one year left on his contract, United sold him to West Ham for £15m in 2024.
The DR Congo international impressed in his first season at the London Stadium, but things unravelled during the 2025/26 campaign. The Hammers were relegated on the final day despite a 2-0 win over Leeds.
According to The Telegraph, Everton are eyeing a move for Wan-Bissaka, which would see the ex-United man promptly return to the Premier League.
The newspaper reveals, “Everton have targeted Aaron Wan-Bissaka in a £10m deal as clubs circle West Ham following their relegation from the Premier League.”
“Telegraph Sport has reported that West Ham need to raise around £150m in player sales to balance the books, with relegation alone costing the club £100m.”
“Republic of Ireland international Jake O’Brien played at right-back last season as Everton challenged for European qualification, but he can also play at centre-back and Wan-Bissaka would add depth in a key area for Moyes.”
The Telegraph note that other clubs are also keeping tabs on Wan-Bissaka, though the report stops short of naming them.
Wan-Bissaka made 190 appearances for United and featured in the FA Cup and Carabao Cup triumphs at Wembley under Ten Hag.
