Clubs like Bristol City, Wolves, Blackburn Rovers and Leicester City have all appointed new head coaches.

And the likes of Sheffield United and West Ham have reshuffled the order behind the scenes.

The coaching setup at Bramall Lane was changed, while the Hammers are bringing in a new recruitment setup following Daniel Kretinsky’s agreement to become the new majority shareholder.

These clubs will be hoping that these moves will help steer them in a positive direction, as they all target promotion pushes next season.

But with squads now returning for pre-season, the work is only just beginning for many of these new appointments across the Championship, League One and League Two.

It has been confirmed by Leicester that Steve Morison has joined the club as part of their reshuffle behind the scenes.

The 42-year-old was last seen working in the EFL when he was appointed as Sutton United manager in January 2024, but the team suffered relegation to the National League that season.

He previously was in charge at Cardiff City, overseeing 16 wins from 45 games in charge from October 2021 to September 2022.

However, the former Millwall striker is now back in football through a new role at Leicester, becoming their loans manager.

He will be in charge of overseeing the management of players who go out on loan, which will include finding suitable deals, as well as maintaining a report on their progress while away from the Foxes.

This will heavily involve working with the club’s younger players, and he will be a key figure in providing a stepping stone from the academy to the first team squad at the King Power.

Leicester have only appointed Russell Martin as their new head coach in recent weeks, with Conor Hourihane joining his coaching staff as an assistant.

This is the 40-year-old’s first move back into management since being sacked by Rangers after just a few months into the role at the start of the season.

But he previously led Southampton to promotion to the Premier League, and has experience of League One from his time as MK Dons boss.

The Foxes will begin the new campaign with a trip to face Notts County on 15 August.

Leicester City changes are promising

Leicester have gone from a mainstay in the Premier League to a League One side in just a few short years, so it’s obvious changes were needed.

And it’s promising that they’ve been able to attract someone like Martin to the role of head coach, as he easily could’ve avoided dropping down to the third tier if he wanted.

Morison taking on the role of loan manager will be a fresh change of pace for his career, as his time as a coach had stalled out after the poor spell at Sutton United.
