Speaking exclusively to Football League World, Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman reacts as Charlton opt for Championship experience in their summer build.
Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman believes that the arrival of two experienced Championship players at Charlton Athletic is "two really, really good signings for Charlton Athletic".
Charlton are in the middle of a summer of squad strengthening following promotion to the Championship at the end of the 2024-25 season, and two of the players that have arrived at The Valley are Thomas Kaminski and Amari'i Bell, from manager Nathan Jones' former club, Luton Town.
Luton were relegated from the Championship at the end of the season, their second successive relegation since surprisingly getting promoted into the Premier League in 2023.
Both Kaminski and Bell have agreed to join former Hatters manager Jones in the higher division this season.
Speaking exclusively to FLW, Don Goodman believes that Kaminski and Bell are just what Charlton need, as they prepare for a return to the Championship following an absence of five years: "It's really interesting, when you contemplate Thomas Kaminski and Amari'i Bell being at Charlton. They are actually, behind Matt Godden, the second and third-oldest players that would be in the Charlton squad that has been assembled so far for next season."
Goodman feels that their experience could be really important to Charlton next season, as they seek to adjust to life at a higher level: "There's no doubt about it; experience required, Championship experience required. These are two players that boast absolutely bundles of that, so you would see these as two really, really good signings for Charlton Athletic."
With over 350 League appearances in the Championship between them, there's no doubt that Kaminski and Bell bring a lot of Championship experience to The Valley with them.
Kaminski arrived in England at Blackburn Rovers from Gent in 2020, and transferred to Luton in 2023 following their promotion to the Premier League. Bell had been with the club a little longer, having arrived at Luton in 2021 after his contract expired with Blackburn. He signed for Rovers in 2018 from Fleetwood Town.
With Charlton manager Nathan Jones having been the Luton manager from 2020 to 2022, Bell also has experience of having worked with their new manager before, although this doesn't apply in the case of Kaminski, who arrived at the club after his departure from Kenilworth Road.
But both players bring a wealth of experience at this level, and there's no question that there is a big step between League One and the Championships, so Jones will be glad of their experience as the Addicks seek to acclimatise to their new surroundings.
