FLW can reveal that Huddersfield Town are in talks to sign Leicester City's Will Alves on loan before the transfer deadline.
Huddersfield Town are interested in signing versatile Leicester City attacking midfielder Will Alves on loan ahead of Monday’s 7pm deadline, Football League World can exclusively reveal.
Despite a 3-1 defeat at Barnsley on Saturday, the Terriers have enjoyed a positive start to life under Lee Grant, as they sit sixth in League One, and they have knocked Leicester and Sunderland out of the League Cup.
Grant has overseen major changes at Huddersfield in the summer, with a high turnover of players, but it appears they are still in the market for reinforcements.
FLW has been told that Alves is on the Terriers’ radar, with the two clubs discussing a potential loan deal for the attacking midfielder, who has also played out wide for City and Cardiff during last season's loan spell.
The 20-year-old is highly-rated by the Foxes after coming through the ranks of the Midlands outfit, but he has struggled to get near Marti Cifuentes’ starting 11 so far this season, with teenager Louis Page ahead of him in the pecking order right now.
So far, Alves’ only minutes of the campaign have come against Huddersfield, but he was replaced at half-time as the third tier outfit went on to win on penalties after a 2-2 draw in 90 minutes.
If this move does materialise, it will be Alves’ second spell away from Leicester, after spending the second half of the previous season with Cardiff City.
Whilst it ultimately ended up in disappointment as the Welsh side were relegated, the youngster did make some positive contributions to the team, as he registered one goal and three assists in 14 appearances.
Alves hasn’t kicked on since returning to Leicester though, and it was telling that he once again failed to make the matchday squad as Cifuentes’ men beat Birmingham City on Friday night.
A loan move may be seen as ideal for his development, and dropping to League One should ensure that Alves gets the regular game time that his parent club will want over the coming months.
If Huddersfield can finalise a move for the England youth international, he will provide Grant with a versatile attacking option, as Alves is capable of playing as a traditional number 10, or down either flank, and he will be tasked with bringing more creativity to the team.
