Yan Diomande’s future is quickly becoming one of the most closely watched transfer stories of the summer. The 19-year-old Ivorian enjoyed a breakthrough campaign in Germany for RB Leipzig, attracting strong interest from Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain as speculation surrounding his next move continues to intensify.

Reputable journalist Abdellah Boulma has been among those providing updates on Diomande’s situation as both European heavyweights battle for the signature of the former Leganes starlet.

Recent reports also suggest that the player has yet to make a final decision on his future; Leipzig are understandably determined to retain one of their most valuable young assets.

Sky Sports News Reporter on Liverpool’s Transfer Strategy Under Andoni Iraola

As the transfer window gathers momentum, we spoke to journalist Abdellah Boulma to get the latest on the Diomande situation…

On the current stance: “Diomande remains under contract and has no intention of forcing a move. Leipzig would like to extend his deal and keep him for at least another season. That said, if a major offer arrives, the club would be open to discussions.”

On the race: “Liverpool are, in my view, the club that have made the most progress so far. They have already established contact with Leipzig and have been working on the deal for some time. PSG, on the other hand, have not gone that far yet.”

On whether PSG will move: “Diomande is highly rated internally by PSG and remains near the top of their shortlist. However, without movement in the attacking department, Paris are unlikely to make a concrete move. Liverpool have been more proactive and are therefore ahead at this stage.”

On the likelihood of a move post World Cup: “My feeling is that the player is open to a new challenge and would like to discover something different. If a club meets Leipzig’s financial demands, a transfer is certainly possible. But as things stand today, nothing is close and there is still a long way to go.”

Described as ‘unstoppable’ following recent standout performances and Man of the Match in the Ivory Coast’s opening 1-0 win over Ecuador over the weekend, Diomande is certainly a top talent that the Reds and Richard Hughes would love to win the race for.
