Exclusive says Chelsea begin talks with €40m defender after consistent Premier League performances | OneFootball

Trevoh Chalobah will be offered a new contract according to a transfer insider, as the defender reaches a critical stage.

Here’s some good news to start off the weekend.

Italian transfer insider Nicolo Schira has just put out an exclusive claiming that Chelsea are going to try and extend Trevoh Chalobah’s contract.

The defender has been pretty much ever-present when available this season, and has really established himself as our most consistent centre back, as well as a reliable leader. After years of trying to shift him, the last two seasons have finally convinced the sporting directors of his quality.

Chalobah at crucial contract stage

With two years left on his deal, now is the time to extend the defender. We can only assume he will be delighted to stay at his boyhood club, and will be rewarded with some seriously improved salary terms.

His fellow Cobham graduate Reece James also got an improved deal recently, and we expect the likes of Marc Cucurella to either sign new terms or be sold as the club continues their policy of avoiding losing free transfers at all costs.

In other news…

Gary Cahill, co-incidentally, was speaking about Chalobah this week, and called him “underrated” and the “more consistent” option for Chelsea in defence this season. It looks like the sporting directors finally agree.

We’re very curious about who gets picked at centre back for Chelsea on Monday – it will tell us a lot about the Blues’ plans.
