Human rights NGO FairSquare is to file a complaint with the IOC ethics commission against FIFA president Gianni Infantino, alleging repeated violations of political neutrality, the NGO said. It added there has been no indication that a prior complaint to FIFA’s ethics body prompted an investigation.

As a member of the IOC, Infantino is bound by the Olympic Charter to act independently of commercial and political interests.

The 56-year-old’s links with Donald Trump have drawn scrutiny in the United States, where the 2026 World Cup is being staged. In February he attended a Trump ‘Peace Council’ event and wore a cap reading ‘USA’ and ‘45-47’.

This week IOC president Kirsty Coventry addressed the Balogun case and, to her knowledge, the ethics commission had not received a complaint over it and would examine any submission. The American player’s suspension for the last 16 against Belgium was lifted after a call from Trump to Infantino.

In December 2025 Infantino presented Trump with a FIFA Peace Award. FairSquare then brought a case to FIFA’s ethics commission over alleged neutrality breaches, later backed by 50 Members of the European Parliament and the Norwegian Football Federation.
