Pierre Kompany, father of Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany, arrived at Belgium’s Chamber of Representatives on Thursday wearing a Bayern scarf. According to L'Équipe, it was a nod to his son's team reaching the Champions League semi-finals.
Bayern beat Real Madrid 4-3 on Wednesday to clinch a 6-4 aggregate win. The show of support followed their victory the night before.
Pierre Kompany, 78, has served as a deputy in the Chamber of Representatives since 2024, the lower house of the Belgian Parliament.
He first entered politics as a member of the Brussels Parliament in 2014. He later became Belgium’s first black mayor, serving Ganshoren, a Brussels commune, from 2018 to 2022.
Before politics he played as a striker for TP Mazembe in the 1970s.
His other son, François Kompany, 36, also had a professional career as a defender, mainly in Belgium’s second tier.
