Corinthians councillor Felipe Ezabella has asked a court to partially suspend the General Assembly on 20 June that will decide on statute reform, arguing the base text has legal flaws and was rejected by the Deliberative Council.

According to Meu Timao, the Assembly should debate only items approved by the Council, and Ezabella had already sought suspension at a late April session over irregularities. After the base text fell, Council president Leonardo Pantaleão sent 15 highlighted items to the Assembly.

Ezabella also contests an edital by suspended Council president Romeu Tuma Júnior, saying it was ignored, and criticises the hand-picked Ethics Committee.

He maintains that the Council’s rejection means an Assembly is unnecessary, since councillors decided the Statute should not be changed. In his view, items not approved should not be submitted to members.

On 22 May, members won an injunction from judge Rafael Viotti Schlobach of the third Civil Court in Tatuapé confirming the vote, a ruling cited in Ezabella’s filing. He adds that CORI, the Fiscal Council and the Deliberative Council all rejected the base text.

A judge will now decide whether to accept his petition, which could suspend the Assembly, or refuse it and keep the 20 June vote. Members can uphold the Council’s decision taken on the 29th or approve the Reform Committee’s base text, and may attach or reject the highlighted items, leaving the Statute unchanged.
