Fernando Diniz has been cleared by the STJD to take charge of Corinthians in Sunday’s derby against São Paulo, 18:30 Brasília time, at Neo Química Arena, in the Campeonato Brasileiro.
According to Globo.com, he had been cited for comments about referee Matheus Candançan after the Mirassol match in the previous round, falling under Article 258 of the CBJD, which covers conduct contrary to discipline or sporting ethics, with a possible ban of up to six games.
Speaking at the José Maria de Campos Maia in Mirassol, Diniz fiercely criticised the officiating and said the VAR, led by Marcio Henrique de Gois, was absurd.
He argued there was no penalty by Matheus Bidu in the incident that led to Mirassol’s opener, and said he saw a foul on Rodrigo Garro at the start of the move for the second. He also questioned why the VAR intervened to overturn a dismissal yet did not invite a review to rule out Mirassol’s goal.
Corinthians are into the Conmebol Libertadores round of 16. In the league they sit 17th on 15 points and will aim to beat São Paulo to climb out of the relegation zone.
