Fernando Diniz honoured by Clube Esportivo da Penha in São Paulo’s east | OneFootball

Corinthians head coach Fernando Diniz has been made an honorary member of Clube Esportivo da Penha, a short hop from Parque São Jorge, at a ceremony held in São Paulo’s Zona Leste on Tuesday. The tribute recognised his family’s ties to the club, where his son Diego played futsal.

According to Meu Timao, club president Luiz Marcelo Breda Pereira thanked Diniz for consistently valuing the institution in interviews and noted the presence of the coach’s wife and daughter. Diniz also presented CEP with a signed Corinthians shirt.

The bond between Corinthians and Penha stretches back to the 1970s, when Walter Casagrande left CEP before later joining the Parque São Jorge side. He went on to become a key figure in the club’s history.

In 2014, with the Ginásio Wlamir Marques undergoing a new playing surface, Corinthians’ professional futsal team used Penha’s gym for pre-season work.

More recently, Matheus Rodrigues, Neguinho, Lucas Martins and Maicon all passed through CEP before winning titles with Corinthians futsal. In the 11-a-side game, midfielder Breno Bidon and forward Kayke also came via CEP, where they played alongside Diego.

Maicon, Corinthians futsal’s top scorer this season, had a trial with the Under-20 football side in recent weeks at Diniz’s request, after the coach first saw him at Penha.

Diniz took charge in early April and has overseen 27 matches, with 13 wins, eight draws and six defeats. His team have reached the Libertadores quarter-finals for the first time since 2022 and now face Estudiantes for a place in the last four. Corinthians host Santos at 16:00 on Sunday at Neo Química Arena in the 25th round of the Brasileiro.
