Barcelona are not opposed to sell one or two of their valuable players this summer, as it would allow them to sign all of their targets. Jules Kounde has been mentioned as a candidate in recent weeks, and he’d now been joined in this list by Ferran Torres.
Over the last six months, Torres has regularly been mentioned as a player that Barcelona could cash in on, especially as he has less than 12 months remaining on his contract. Paris Saint-Germain are interested in signing him, while there has also been Premier League clubs sniffing about his situation over the last couple of years.
Robert Lewandowski’s exit had appeared to end any chance of Torres leaving Barcelona this summer, but that is not the case right now. According to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenburg, there are chances for a deal to be done, with the Spain international having received “several top offers” from unnamed clubs in the last few weeks.
Given that he has scored 40 goals across all competitions in the last two seasons, it would be a surprise to see Barcelona push Torres towards the exit door. He would continue to be a very valuable squad player, but even if he were to go, there is unlikely to be any movement until a new star striker – which the club hopes to be Julian Alvarez – is signed.
Interestingly, it could be said that Barcelona are on the verge of signing Torres’ replacement. The Catalans are in advanced talks to sign Karim Adeyemi from Borussia Dortmund, and although the idea would be for the 24-year-old to act as Lamine Yamal’s backup on the right side of attack, he can play through the middle too – as can Anthony Gordon, who was signed from Newcastle United last month.
