The French Football Federation expects heavy World Cup costs and calculates it will only break even from the quarter-finals.

According to L'Équipe, the 2026-27 budget will be presented at Saturday’s general assembly in Ajaccio and is set to balance at €322m in recurring revenue, largely driven by partnerships.

For the World Cup, the planning assumption is a quarter-final berth. In that scenario, income would be €26m, made up of €23.5m from FIFA distributions and €2.5m from ticketing.

Projected outgoings for the tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico total €24.4m. Within that, delegation costs such as hotels and the base camp are €7.9m, while bonuses and image rights reach €10.7m.

The document points to a €1.6m surplus if Les Bleus make the last eight. On Thursday, FFF president Philippe Diallo was more cautious, suggesting at least the semi-finals would be needed to avoid a loss, and he again urged FIFA to do more for participating nations.

Before 10 June, and the squad’s departure for the United States, Diallo must finalise bonuses and player ticket allocations. He is confident an agreement will be reached. The final bonus scale would only marginally affect the World Cup result.

After a €8.7m deficit last year, including €10m of support for the professional game, the FFF says it expects to return to break-even in December.
