Flaco López to take break, expected to miss Palmeiras restart after World Cup final | OneFootball

Flaco López ended his World Cup on Sunday as Argentina lost 1-0 to Spain in New Jersey, United States, and will take a short break before rejoining Palmeiras.

According to Globo.com, he is expected back in the final week of July, so he will miss Wednesday's restart away to Coritiba at 19:30 at Couto Pereira in the 19th round.

Palmeiras have applied the same policy to their other World Cup players.

On his return to the Academia de Futebol he will undergo routine tests, though there is no concern over his fitness.

López featured twice, against Jordan and Switzerland, both as a substitute, totalling 18 minutes.

His key moment came in the quarter-finals in Kansas City, when he entered late in extra time and teed up Julián Álvarez in the 3-1 win over Switzerland.

He became the first foreign player in Palmeiras' history to reach a World Cup final, but did not add his name to the club's list of champions.

Palmeiras have had nine World Cup winners, including Mazzola, Djalma Santos, Zequinha, Vavá, Emerson Leão, Baldocchi, Zinho, Mazinho and Marcos.

Only Djalma Santos, Vavá, Zinho, Mazinho and Marcos started those finals for Brazil, with Vavá also scoring against Czechoslovakia.
