Flamengo mocked Cruzeiro midfielder Gerson on social media after a 2-1 win at the Maracanã sealed a place in the Conmebol Libertadores quarter-finals on Wednesday. According to Globo.com, the club targeted their former player in a series of posts.
During the match, the Cruzeiro midfielder was substituted in the 40th minute of the second half and left to boos and insults from the home support.
One video showed the Joker character in tears, a nod to the nickname Gerson held during his Flamengo spell. Its caption styled the moment as a post-match cinema session and said there was no shortage of popcorn.
Another post, published right after full time, used a line from a song in a provocative tone, urging someone to stay well away from their path.
There was further needle as Flamengo shared photos of Pulgar and Evertton Araújo with Gerson blurred and out of focus in the background.
