Flamengo have faced many national teams bound for the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada. According to Globo.com, they have 11 wins, eight draws and five defeats from those meetings, with 39 scored and 25 conceded.

The first such game was a 2-1 defeat to Argentina in Barracas in April 1933, Nelson scoring. In June 1951 they beat Denmark 2-0 on a European tour that finished with 10 wins from 10.

They then met Brazil at the Maracanã in 1957 and 1958, drawing 0-0 then winning 1-0 through Manoelzinho.

In 1962 Flamengo drew 2-2 with Mexico at the Azteca and beat Norway 5-1 in Oslo. They drew 1-1 with Argentina in 1966 as Silva equalised and was sent off, then in 1970 drew 1-1 with Japan and lost 2-1 to South Korea. A 2-2 draw with Saudi Arabia followed in 1974, Zico scoring both, before a 2-0 win over Brazil in 1976 that honoured the late midfielder Geraldo Cleofas Dias Alves.

The next decade brought twin wins over Iraq in 1986, a 1-0 victory against Algeria in 1987 and a 3-2 loss to Mexico the same year. Flamengo beat Ivory Coast 3-0 and Japan 3-1 in 1988, edged the United States 1-0 in 1990, drew 0-0 with Australia in 1994 and finished with a 1-1 draw against Uruguay in 1995, Nélio scoring on Romário’s debut.
