Rodrygo will miss the 2026 World Cup after a serious knee injury, but the Real Madrid forward plans to be in the United States to support Brazil and continue his recovery.

He tore the anterior cruciate ligament and external meniscus in his right knee in March while playing for Madrid. In a piece for The Guardian, the 25-year-old said he intends to attend some Seleçao matches while keeping up his daily treatment and experiencing the tournament in a different way.

Already in New York, the Brazil international with 37 caps is set to follow the squad closely as they open against Morocco at midnight.

Rodrygo reflected on a dream that had driven him since Brazil’s 2022 quarter-final defeat by Croatia, when he missed in the shootout. He wrote that returning to the tournament with the national shirt had consumed his thoughts, and that the injury ruling him out was a terrible blow.

Despite that disappointment, he plans to be a committed supporter, hoping to pass on positive energy to team-mates. He said goals will bring both joy and relief, aware of the country’s expectations for the Seleçao to win the World Cup.

He also paid tribute to Carlo Ancelotti, praising the coach’s qualities as a person and his guidance during difficult moments. Rodrygo added that Ancelotti understands the demands of elite football and knows what he is doing in charge of the Seleçao.
