Olympique Lyonnais said in a statement that Fleury Di Nallo, the Petit Prince of Gerland and the club’s record scorer, died on Wednesday 13 May aged 83.
Di Nallo scored 222 goals for OL between 1960 and 1974, playing in nearly 500 matches. He helped deliver three Coupes de France in 1964, 1967 and 1973.
A diminutive forward with sharp movement and a ruthless finish, he was renowned for his speed, instinct and technique. He could tilt a game in an instant.
Born in Lyon to an Italian family, he grew up in Gerland and was spotted at Rhône Sportif, now FC Gerland, before joining OL. He won 10 France caps between 1962 and 1971, scoring eight goals, with standout displays against Hungary and Pelé’s Brazil.
He thrived on the biggest occasions, especially derbies with AS Saint-Étienne. His hat-trick in the 1971 Coupe de France last 16 overturned the rivals and remains one of OL’s landmark feats.
After Lyon he played for Red Star and Montpellier, alongside friend Louis Nicollin, then finished at Villefranche-sur-Saône in 1978.
His bond with OL endured, following results from his regular seat at Groupama Stadium. He was deeply affected by Bernard Lacombe’s death in June 2025, saying he had lost someone like a brother. He celebrated his birthday on 20 April.
