According to Sunderland Echo, Matty Young has completed a loan switch to Huddersfield Town, giving the Sunderland goalkeeper his first taste of League One.

The 19-year-old has racked up well over 50 senior games across two seasons with Salford City, who missed out on promotion on the final day before losing to Notts County in the play-offs.

Shortly before that play-off final, Young signed a long-term deal on Wearside to summer 2030. A youth international seen as one of the academy’s leading prospects, Ghisolfi called the step up crucial to his development, praised the goalkeeping department and sent best wishes for 2026/27.

Huddersfield director of football Chris Markham said they are thankful to Sunderland for trusting them with the next stage of Young’s career, describing him as among the most highly rated young keepers. He welcomed integrating him early in pre-season, highlighted his club and international experience for his age and praised his attitude. Markham also hoped he would follow other young Premier League talents who developed with the club.

Huddersfield boss Martin Drury said extensive watching showed why Young is so highly regarded, and meetings underlined his character and hunger. He noted the player’s desire to join and said Huddersfield will work with Sunderland to further his development while strengthening the position. Young will work with head of goalkeeping Chris Elliott at Canalside to make a positive contribution next season.
