Sunderland have moved to strengthen their recruitment team as Florent Ghisolfi prepares for a summer defined by outgoings and loans.

According to Sunderland Echo, Matteo Serra is being brought in to support the summer programme, with a remit centred on player exits and loan management.

Serra was most recently head of recruitment at PAOK, who finished third in Greece last season, and previously held roles at Juventus, PSG and Lille.

Outgoings are expected to be pivotal, with several players not in Régis Le Bris's plans seeking moves. Youngsters, including striker Ahmed Abdullahi, are being lined up for loans to secure regular minutes.

Effective departures will help manage the wage bill and maintain Sunderland's strong position under the Premier League's new SCR rules.

Ghisolfi has said the club anticipate a quieter window for incomings. He prefers stability and fewer, higher-quality additions that fit Sunderland's values, comparing last summer to a sprint and this one to a marathon. He will oversee Serra as the revamped recruitment department works through the window.
