Florent Ghisolfi makes behind-the-scenes hire at Sunderland with focus on exits and loans | OneFootball

Florent Ghisolfi has moved to strengthen Sunderland’s recruitment team by bringing in Matteo Serra to focus on outgoings during the summer window.

According to Sunderland Echo, Serra will handle player exits and loan management, supporting Ghisolfi across a pivotal period.

Serra was most recently head of recruitment at Greek top-flight side PAOK, who finished third last season. He has also held recruitment roles at Juventus, PSG and Lille.

Outgoings are expected to be central to Sunderland’s plans, with several players not in Régis Le Bris’s thinking seeking moves. Young prospects are also being lined up for loans to secure regular minutes, including striker Ahmed Abdullahi. Managing departures is important for the wage bill and to maintain Sunderland’s strong position under the Premier League’s new SCR rules.

Ghisolfi has stressed a preference for stability, saying last week that incomings should be fewer, with quality prioritised and any addition needing to fit Sunderland’s values. He likened last summer to a sprint and this one to a marathon, and will oversee Serra within his revamped department.
