Sunderland are accelerating summer recruitment as Florent Ghisolfi weighs potential bids for two Serie A targets. A right winger and another centre back are on the agenda.

Corriere dello Sport reports that representatives of AS Roma winger Matías Soulé are in the UK this weekend for talks with Sunderland and Fulham. Soulé is familiar to the director of football, who took him from Juventus to Roma, and the club are open to a sale to help with UEFA rules and reinvestment. A fee in the region of £30 million has been widely cited for the 23-year-old.

Sunderland are prioritising a right-sided attacker following Bertrand Traoré’s departure earlier this summer.

Sunderland could also step up their pursuit of Sassuolo’s Bosnia international Tarik Muharemović with an official bid next week amid other Premier League interest. The situation is complicated by Juventus holding a 50% sell-on clause after selling him to Sassuolo last summer. Jhon Lucumí is among alternative options as he enters the final year of his Bologna contract.

Caught Offside reports that Arsenal and Liverpool are weighing a move for former Sunderland loanee Lutsharel Geertruida. Sunderland remain keen, though their option to buy is understood to have expired as the 25-year-old considers his future. He ended the season in excellent form and was central to Europa League qualification.

Ghisolfi has set a tone of stability and quality over volume this window. He wants any arrivals to fit Sunderland’s values, viewing this summer as a measured marathon rather than last year’s sprint.
