Former Barcelona captain ends Italy adventure after two seasons | OneFootball

Barcelona have multiple players leaving the club this summer when their contract expires, and former stars are in the same boat. One of the most notable is Sergi Roberto, who was captain up until his departure two years ago.

Upon leaving Barcelona in 2024, Roberto joined Como, and he played his part as Cesc Fabregas’ side secured Champions League qualification for the first time in their history during the 2025-26 season. However, he won’t be there to play in the competition, as he’s being let go when his contract expires on the 30th June.

Roberto pays tribute to Como after exit

The news of Roberto’s Como exit was made official this week, and the veteran midfielder has now taken to Instagram (via X) to pay tribute to the Serie A side, with whom he enjoyed the last two years.

“Two unforgettable years. An unforgettable journey. I arrived when the club had just won promotion to Serie A, full of enthusiasm for a new challenge. Today I leave Como, qualified for the Champions League, a goal that at the beginning of this journey seemed only a dream.

“Looking back, I’m incredibly proud of everything we’ve achieved together. Not only for the results on the pitch, but above all for the people I met along the way. From day one, my family and I felt welcomed and loved. Como has become our home, and these years will always have a special place in our hearts. We have created memories and friendships that will stay with us forever.

“I want to thank my teammates, the coaching staff, everyone working behind the scenes and all the fans for your support, trust and affection on this journey. Como will always be a very important part of my life and career. I leave with only gratitude and with the certainty that this club has a bright future ahead of it. Thank you for everything.
