Former Barcelona striker heaps praise on teenage sensation – “A complete player” | OneFootball

Lamine Yamal has become the darling of world football following a tremendous 2024/25 campaign that saw him win the domestic treble with Barcelona.

Yamal was also instrumental in helping Spain win the Euro 2024 last summer and reach the final of the UEFA Nations League this year.

Yamal’s achievements have led to many footballing legends singing praises of him in public, and one of them has been Sergio Aguero.

Aguero waxes lyrical about Yamal

In a recent interview with ESPN, Aguero was asked about his favourite young player in world football right now.

The former Barcelona forward did not hesitate in naming Lamine Yamal as his favourite, before going on to heap praise on the young forward.

“For me, Lamine Yamal is an amazing player. He is a complete player. I don’t watch much football, but when Barça plays you know he’s a player who makes the difference,” he said.

Aguero is quite vocal on social media and remains an avid supporter of Barcelona, even though his spell at the club was marred by injuries and a health emergency that eventually led to his retirement.

The former Manchester City striker was able to play only five competitive matches for the Blaugrana before retiring at the end of 2021.

Talking about Yamal, Aguero highlighted how Yamal has a calm personality and deserves praise for his performances and personality.

“You are amazed when you watch him play. I think Lamine Yamal is a very good and important player. I talked to him several times, and he is a calm person. You have to tip your hat to him,” he concluded.

Aguero is not the first footballing personality to heap praise on Yamal, as others, including another ex-Barcelona striker, Luis Suarez, have also praised the youngster for his rapid rise to prominence.
