Former Botafogo forward explains why he did not join Flamengo | OneFootball

Luís Henrique, the former Botafogo forward now at Inter Milan, has explained how a 2022 switch to Flamengo fell through.

“It was a real mess. Flamengo came for me and at first it was not in the media. Soon after, I had more or less agreed with Flamengo. Between me and the club everything was settled, it just needed sorting with Marseille. Then Botafogo arrived and it came out that they wanted me, and only after that did the Flamengo story appear,” he said, speaking to ESPN.

“I was basically set, so it looked like I had turned down Botafogo to join Flamengo, but that was not the case. Botafogo negotiated with Marseille, Flamengo’s talks with Marseille did not work and they walked away, and I was already settled at Botafogo with many friends there, I knew the club well.”

In July 2022, Flamengo opened talks with Olympique de Marseille to take the ex-Botafogo player on loan. An agreement with Luís Henrique was reached and he was open to the move, but the club stepped back once Botafogo’s interest advanced.

Flamengo remain active in the market for a new centre forward. Filipe Luís’s side face Madureira at the Maracanã on Sunday 22 at 20:30 Brasília time, in the first leg of the Campeonato Carioca semi-final. GE TV, SporTV and Premiere will broadcast the match.
