VfL Wolfsburg announced yesterday that they have signed Christian Eriksen as a free agent after his contract with Manchester United expired earlier this summer.
Eriksen moved on from Old Trafford after making 107 appearances in three seasons. To stay fit in his search for a new club, he recently trained with Malmö FF. Now, the midfielder will join Wolfsburg. “Wolfsburg is my first stop in the Bundesliga, and I’m really looking forward to this new adventure,” said Eriksen.
“I’m convinced that together we can make a difference in Wolfsburg. The conversations with the officials were very good. I immediately felt that Paul Simonis had a clear understanding of the team and also of me. The fact that the squad includes many familiar faces from the Danish national team makes VfL particularly attractive to me.”
Eriksen has signed a contract until the summer of 2027 and will wear shirt number 24, just like he did at Inter Milan.
“We’re thrilled that this opportunity has arisen so quickly,” said Technical Director Sebastian Schindzielorz. “With Christian, we’re bringing in a player who has seen and experienced everything at the highest level. His vast experience, his playing ability, and his personality will be a valuable source of inspiration, especially for our young players. He can make a difference both on and off the pitch.”
With the likes of Joakim Maehle, Jesper Lindstöm, Andreas Skov Olsen, Adam Daghim, Jonas Wind, and now Eriksen, manager Paul Simonis has a substantial Danish contingent at his disposal.
