Simone Inzaghi is pushing to reunite with Francesco Acerbi at Al-Hilal, as the Italy defender prepares to leave Inter Milan at the end of the season.

According to Tuttosport, via FCInter1908, the former Inter head coach is keen to bring the veteran centre-back to Saudi Arabia, potentially offering him one final chapter in his playing career.

Acerbi, who turned 38 in February, is out of contract at Inter this summer.

Despite his age, he continued to demonstrate his quality as recently as Sunday’s win over Roma.

Indeed, a reminder that he still has plenty to offer at the highest level.

Inzaghi Targets Acerbi Reunion At Al-Hilal As Inter Contract Runs Out

The move would make considerable sense for all parties.

The less demanding nature of Saudi football could allow Acerbi to extend his career beyond what European football might permit, while also adding to his trophy collection.

For Inzaghi, bringing in a trusted and experienced defender he knows inside out would strengthen Al-Hilal’s backline.

The pair shared considerable success together at Inter, and that familiarity could prove invaluable in Inzaghi’s ongoing project in Saudi Arabia.

Whether Acerbi opts for that route remains to be seen, but the interest is genuine and the door appears open.
