Big changes are coming to Liverpool’s midfield this summer.

Incoming deals could be done by sporting director Richard Hughes following a poor season. Alex Scott, Adam Wharton and Aurelien Tchouameni are just a flavour of the names mentioned as potential Reds’ targets.

The outgoing Premier League champions got diminishing returns from certain individuals within the midfield ranks last term. Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch were beneath their 2024/25 Premier League title-winning best.

And that’s why it’s no surprise to see Andoni Iraola’s side linked with incoming midfielders. Any transfers completed are likely to have another knock-on effect - diminished opportunities for up-and-coming midfielders.

Stefan Bajcetic needs minutes

Trey Nyoni and James McConnell are likely to end up on loan - and according to a new report in Ontheminute there is another contender to join them for a temporary spell away.

Stefan Bajcetic, 21, has been with Liverpool since 2020 - starring under Jurgen Klopp during the 2022/23 campaign with the German describing his protege as super.

But injuries and unsuccessful loan spells have disrupted the young Spaniard’s rhythm - but the deep-lying player does look set to be fit for preseason.

It’s two years and more since Bajcetic played for Liverpool’s first team but he now appears ready to attack the new campaign.

Championship loan deal beckons for Bajcetic

Liverpool will be keen to allow Bajcetic the ideal conditions to facilitate a full recovery and that’s why a loan deal is being considered.

The report claims Preston North End as well as Stoke City, Blackburn Rovers and Middlesbrough are now all in the running to sign Bajcetic.

“Preston North End have joined Stoke City, Blackburn Rovers and Middlesbrough in the race to sign Liverpool midfielder Stefan Bajcetic on loan next season,” the report reads.

Bajcetic will be given the opportunity to make an impression on new Reds’ head coach Andoni Iraola.

Bajcetic will begin preseason under Iraola

The Spaniard will give everyone a blank slate according to various reports - but it is the case that Bajcetic will be sent on loan for a fresh start and first-team minutes.

“Liverpool are expected to make a decision after assessing the Spanish youth international during pre-season,” the report reads.

“Liverpool’s final call is likely to depend on fitness, playing-time guarantees and the role each club can offer.”

Any outgoing loan deal for Bajcetic is likely to be accompanied by a new Liverpool contract with his current terms reportedly expiring in 2027.
