Four homegrown centre-backs poised as Anoeta waits on new addition | OneFootball

The next centre-back through the door at Anoeta will meet strong in-house competition, with four defenders already staking their claim.

According to Diario Vasco, last season’s first-choice pairing was Jon Martín and Zubeldia. Martín has signed a new deal to 2032 and continues to progress at home. Zubeldia remains a proven performer despite a slight dip last term.

Pacheco has returned from a loan in Gasteiz. Beitia is another highly rated prospect whose under-23 status allows him to be on the Europa League List A while featuring for Sanse at weekends.

Kita is now officially on the books after last season’s loan, and his performances have impressed at Anoeta. Some in the first-team dressing room have even been surprised by his level.

Matarazzo wanted to assess the Japanese defender in pre-season, as he had during training last year, and is pleased with his progress. For now he will play under Ansotegi in the Liga Hypermotion, completing a quartet to be maximised while they wait for the incoming centre-back.
