Johan Manzambi (20) has enjoyed a breakout season at Freiburg which ended with the Breisgau club losing the UEFA Europa League final against Aston Villa (3-0).
With interest from Bayer Leverkusen and Italian side Napoli, Manzambi, in the aftermath of Freiburg’s European cup final defeat, was asked if that was his last game of the club. “I honestly don’t know,” he told Bild. “My contract runs until 2030.
“We’ll see. Right now, I have to prepare for the World Cup, then we’ll see what the future holds for me.”
When asked about playing against players such as Morgan Rogers and Ollie Watkins, Mazambi added: “It’s nice to play against such players but on the pitch, we completely forget about that – I just want to win.”
Manzambi has scored seven goals and provided nine assists in 47 games across all competitions for Julian Schuster’s outfit this season, which resulted in a call-up to Switzerland’s World Cup squad.
“He has an incredible hunger for goals, I’ve rarely seen that in a player,” said Murat Yakin, Switzerland’s head coach.
